My Style Icon: My Aunt

 

The blond on the left is is my aunt (who was a stewerdess) in New York in 1978 just before they got into a taxi to Studio 54. They of course got in to the club that night and a thousand stories were born that have been told told at family functions ever since I was just a tot. She is my style icon.

Vintage on What Not to Wear!

I love me some WNTW and I usually take what Clinton and Stacey have to say as style cannon BUT today I saw the Renee episode. The vintage lover from New Orleans that spent a lifetime collecting period pieces dating from the 40's to the 80's and Stacey and Clinton THREW THEM AWAY! It hurt to watch. Truth be told they did let her keep a few pieces to mix with her new ones but some of the stuff they got rid of was Etsy gold. For example the black and white tuxedo dress, the peach lace dress, the sequin top......

Shopping in Santa Rosa

To my pleasant surprise, Santa Rosa California has a plethora of thrift shops and antique stores. Many are located in the heart of their historic old town which makes vintage shopping there the appropriate thing to do.

Yesterday I shopped the refurbished neighborhood of Railroad Square which has a combination of thrift stores, vintage couture, and antiques.
