Book To Love

Mr. Italian Postcards gave me a wonderful book for Christmas: Vintage Fashion: Collecting and Wearing Designer Classics.

This books spans the clothing trends and styles starting from 1900 thru the 1980s. For me its extremely inspirational. Its not just full of picture after glossy picture of gorgeous fashion but it is also a detailed guide of what to look for, bios of influencional designers, and where the incentives of the age came from.

Here is a quote from pg. 31, The Age of the Flapper:
"By 1924 the wise-cracking flappers were as much known for their reckless behavior as for their style.  Smoking and putting their make-up on in public, the bright young things drank and danced the Shimmy and the Bunny Hop in a frenzy of excitement. taping up their breasts to get rid of unwanted curves, they looked youthful and boyish, and the new silhouette was slender, straight up and down like a board, and in fact became known as 'le garçonne'. "

This book is great for collectors. It's also quite educational and I believe you can never learn too much about the past in order to know where the future is going. My high school history teacher taught my that.

I love it when a vintage Etsy seller is featured on the front page. This week I was delighted to find that vintage seller AdVintagous was featured on Quit Your Day Job on The Storque Blog! AdVintagous has been a fav shop of mine of a while now, I hope it brought her many sells and popularity. What a great way to start the new year! See her story here:
